2008-2009: Tamashiro to EMU

Tracie Tamashiro has signed with Eastern Michigan, according to a school release. She recently finished 4th AA at the Region II L10 Regionals. In 2007, she placed 1st AA, VT, BB and FX at the Region II L10 Regionals but only competed one event at Nationals. In 2005, she qualified to the US Classic in the senior international elite division. 2009-2010: Olson to Oklahoma

Brie Olson has committed to OU for 2009-2010, according to her family. Olson is a L10 at the Twin City Twisters. She recently placed 1st AA, 1st on UB, 1st on FX and 1st(t) on VT at the 2008 Region IV L10 Regionals. She tied for 28th(t) AA and 6th(t) on UB at the 2007 L10 Nationals. Link: Her Web Site
2008-2009: de Jocas to Yale

Claude de Jocas has committed to Yale for the 2008-2009 season. She trains at Futures Gymnastics in Mississauga, Canada. She qualified to Elite Canada in 2007 and placed 3rd AA at the Eastern Canadian Championships, National Open division.
2009-2010: Swankowski to Missouri

Lauren Swankowski has committed to Missouri, according to a site submission. Swankowski is a L10 at KMC Gymnastics in PA. She recently placed 6th AA, 3rd on BB and FX at the recent Region VII L10 Regionals. In 2007, she placed 27th AA at the L10 Nationals.Link: Videos on YouTube.com

2008-2009: Schwartz to Rutgers

Nicole Schwartz has signed with Rutgers, according to her club website. She's a L10 at Arena (NJ). She recently placed 12th AA at the Region VII L10 Regionals. Link: Her Web Site
Men's: Iowa Signs Three

Jacob Swafford, Zach Cazabon, and Tayler Scharman join Blaine Klaczak who signed up last fall. Swafford won TN state AA titles from 2003-2007, and won the Region VIII title on PB last season. He was 44th AA at the prelims of the 2007 JO Nationals. He trains at Premier in Knoxville, and is currently recovering from injury. Cazabon, from St. Louis Gymnastics, recently won his fourth straight Missouri AA title. Last season, he finished 24th AA at the JO Nationals. In 2006, he was 14th AA at the VISA (US) Championships, Junior 14-15 division. Scharman is a former Jr. National Team member who trains at USA Gym World and has won the Utah state AA title 11 times. He was 54th AA in the prelims of the 2007 JO Nationals. Klaczak trains at Bartlett Gymnastics and also qualified for the 2007 JO Nationals. Link: Iowa Release
2009-2010: Stevenson to Iowa

Emma Stevenson has committed to Iowa, according to her club website. Stevenson is a L10 at Phenom Gymnastics. She recently placed 5th AA at the 2008 Region V L10 Regionals. She also placed 14th AA at the 2007 Region V L10 Regionals and was 8th AA at the 2006 Region V L10 Regionals.
2009-2010: Zurales to Michigan

Katie Zurales, a L10 at Phenom, has committed to Michigan for 2009-2010, according to her club website. At the recent Region V L10 Regionals, she placed 1st AA. She was 3rd AA, 1st on VT, 6th(t) on BB and 7th(t) on UB at the 2007 L10 Nationals. She was also 9th AA, 3rd(t) on VT and 8th(t) at 2006 L10 Nationals. Link: YouTube.com Video

2008-2009: Cornell Adds Four

Cornell will welcome Bethany Neczypor and Melanie Standridge next season, bringing their class up to a total of four athletes. The Cornell commits of Tiffany Chen and Kaitlin Hardy were covered in previous news items. Neczypor is a L10 at Gymnastics World of Ohio. In 2008, she finished 19th AA at the Region V L10 Regionals. She also finished 16th AA at the 2007 Region V L10 Regionals. Standridge is a L10 at Diamond. She recently placed 10th AA at the 2008 Region VII L10 Regionals. She also tied for 2nd on BB at the 2005 L10 Nationals.
2008-2009: Hayes to Penn

Cari Hayes has committed to compete for Penn next season, according to a site submission. Hayes is a L10 at the Georgia All-Stars. She recently placed 19th AA at the Region VIII L10 Regionals. She also qualified in 2007 to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals, and was a Regional champ on VT.

Illinois Men's Coach Hayasaki to Retire

Yoshi Hayasaki, Head Coach of Illinois' Men's team, has announced his retirement after 2008-2009. Next season will be his 33rd, and he started as a graduate assistant in 1971. He won the National Title with Illinois in 1989 and Big 10 Titles in 1981, 1983, 1988, 1989 and 2004. As an athlete, he won two National Titles in a row while at Washington. Link: Illinois Release
Ball State Signs Four

Ball State has announced the signing of Dominique DeRosa, Brittney Emmons, Daneen Haba and Kayla Kmiecek. The commits of Emmons and Kmiecek were covered previously. DeRosa is a L10 who trains at Gold Medal in New York. She placed 55th AA at the 2007 L10 Nationals and was 28th AA as a Junior C in 2006. Haba is a L10 who trains at GymStars in Tennessee. Most recently, she captured 3rd AA and 1st(t) UB at the Region VIII L10 Regionals. She placed 46th AA at the 2007 L10 Nationals. Link: Ball State Release
