The NCAA and leaders of the Big 5 Conferences have filed an important document in the proposed settlement for the three landmark court cases.  This filing proposes to limit roster sizes and allow scholarship up to the full roster limits for all sports.  For gymnastics, the new roster size will be 20 for both men and women.  Currently, neither sport has a roster size limit.  Women's gymnastics has been limited to 12 scholarships in Division 1 and 3.3 equivalent scholarships (split among many) for the men.  Now, each sport will be able to fund up to 20 spots, but no more. The settlement also covers revenue sharing and enforcement.  The agreement also attempts to reign in the current unbounded NIL market and third-party collectives.  It must be approved by the court, and potentially, supported by federal legislation.  If approved, it should provide for a chaotic spring transfer season and disrupt the current 2025 and 2026 recruiting process.

Acrobatics and tumbling will see a huge scholarship limit increase, from 14 sports to 55 spots.  As with gymnastics and other sports, especially on the men's side, few programs will be able to fully fund all their roster spots.

US Men's Olympic Squad Named

Michigan's Fred Richard leads the US Men's Olympic Squad after winning the Olympic Trials this Saturday.  He secured an automatic spot on the team by not only finishing 1st in the AA, but by placing in the top 3 on 3 events. He will be joined by runnerup Brody Malone, a former NCAA champ and Olympian from Stanford who is also the current US Champion.  Michigan's Paul Juda, Stanford's  Asher Hong and former PSU standout and 2021 Pommel Horse World Champion Stephen Nedoroscik.  Stanford's Khoi Young, a two-time World silver medalist and former Gopher standout Shane Wiskus were named traveling alternates.  Wiskus finished third in the AA at the Trials but the former Olympian missed out on a spot on the main spot because he was not part of one of the highest scoring men's teams, when results were compiled from both the US Championships and Trials.  In the selection criteria, the top 5 potential team scores (including Richard) counting averages of all four scores from the four meets, and the top 5 team scoring combination using the best 3 of 4 were compared.  This calculation produced a high team score containing the same five athletes, under both criteria.  Per the rules, this team was automatically selected, and any more subjective criteria was not used.  Several gymnasts came very close to making the team, as the differences ended up being very small.

Simone Biles leads the field after Day 1 of the US Olympic Trials.  Clubmate Jordan Chiles of UCLA was 2nd while Olympic champ Suni Lee was 3rd.  Not far behind is Oregon State's Jade Carey in 4th while Arkansas signee Jocelyn Roberson in 5th.  The Trials have been marred by injury.  Gator signee Skye Blakely, who was a strong 3rd at the US Championships, was injured this.  Then on VT, Shilese Jones was injured in warmups and Gator Kayla DiCello was hurt on her first VT.  Jones managed to do UB but DiCello had to withdraw.  All three were leading candidates for the Olympic Squad.
