Women's National Rankings for the Week of February 21st

Written by

There are big changes in the rankings this week as the Troester.com GymInfo National Ranking shift to the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) as a method for ranking.

Some things don't change, as Florida continues its domination of the rankings, with an RQS that already breaks the 197 mark.  They also hold the lead on all four events as a team.  Next is Stanford, but they are nearly a half a point behind.  Spots 9 to 17 are separated by only 0.3 points, so much movement is possible before the end of the season.

The RQS formula really impacts the individual rankings.  To calculate the RQS, you must first find a team or individual's top three AWAY scores.  From the remaining scores, you select the three highest HOME or AWAY scores.  Then, you toss out the highest score and average the remaining five.  When you do this, several individuals and a few teams drop out of the rankings, as they don't have enough scores to complete the formula.  For example, because Florida has rotated their stars in and out of meets, many do not have the required number of scores.

So, this week, Michigan's Kylee Botterman is the top all arounder.  Erin Davis of Nebraska and  Kayla Hoffman of Bama take over the top spot on VT.  Penn State's Natalie Ettl is the top bar worker.  On BB, PSU teammate Sharaya Musser is the top worker.  And finally on FX, Florida's Ashanee Dickerson and Stanford's Ashley Morgan hold the top spot.

Here's this week's Top 25.  You can expect a lot of movement over the next week or two, as teams like Utah and NC State enter the ranking and as teams get to drop low scores that are holding down their RQS.  It'll be a race to the finish for the Top 36 teams, as all 36 squads will be seeded into six regions.
