Women's National Rankings for the Week of February 28th

Written by

This week's Troester.com GymInfo National ranking show considerable movement from last week.  Due to the nature of the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) system, some teams were not able to get a RQS for last week's rankings or were carrying very low scores in their average.

Florida once again leads the Top 25 rankings, in team total and on each event, despite losing on the road this past weekend.  Stanford holds on #2, but #3 Bama is closing the gap.

The RQS formula really impacts the individual rankings.  To calculate the RQS, you must first find a team or individual's top three AWAY scores.  From the remaining scores, you select the three highest HOME or AWAY scores.  Then, you toss out the highest score and average the remaining five.

Kylee Botterman of Michigan remains the top AAer this week.  NU's Erin Davis holds onto the top vault spot.  Florida frosh Mackenzie Caquatto jumps to the top of the UB ranking, while PSU's Sharaya Musser is the top BB worker.  On FX, Florida's Ashanee Dickerson and Stanford's Ashley Morgan are tied for the top spot.

Here's this week's Top 25.  The real drama over the next three weekends will be for the teams jockeying for the Top 12, 18 and 36 spot.  Because the teams are seeded by rank into the post-season, these "break points" are critical.  The top 36 qualify for the Regional meet, and several teams are battling for the top spots.  For the Top 18, the Regional seeding format assigns teams according to a specific protocol.  The remaining 18 are assigned primarily by geographical proximity.  Certain Regionals are nevertheless considered "tough" Regionals, and this assignment could impact the chances of a team to make the National meet.
