Michigan superstar and reigning NCAA champ Fred Richard took the lead after Day 1 of the US Championships, posting an 84.326 to edge Danila Leykin's 84.173. He posted the top mark of the day on FX. Former Minnesota standout Shane Wiskus is 3rd, while rising Stanford star Cooper Kim is 4th, including the top mark on HB. Former Stanford star Taylor Burkhart is fifth, while former OU superstar and former NCAA champ Yul Moldauer is 6th, and posted the top mark on PB. Former PSU star Joshua Karnes is 7th, Stanford's David Shamah is 8th and Stanford grad Nicolas Kuelber is 9th. OU's Nathan Roman was 10th. AF grad Patrick Hoopes is 1st on PH while NU grad Asher Cohen posted the top mark on R. Former Ohio State standout Kameron Nelson posted the top average on VT.
The men's bonus system was in place. Three top athletes missed the championships: Donnell Wittenburg and Asher Hong are recovering from injury while Brody Malone is taking time off.
