The USA Gymnastics Open held an elite qualifier this past weekend. Senior age level competitors needed to hit qualifying scores in order to advance to the Classics (if they have already received their compulsary score): 53.0 as an AAer, 40.5 on three events, or 27.5 on two events. AU commit Caitlin Atkinson placed 3rd in her session but did get a qualifying mark. Bama commit Lauren Beers was 4th in the same session and has previously qualified. The next qualifier is in July.

Per Gymn.ca, Ti Liu is reportedly headed to UCLA as a walk-on. The sr. high performance (elite) from Canada's Gymnix club recently placed 4th on BB and 7th on UB at the 2011 Canadian Championships. At the 2010 Canadian Championships, she placed 2nd AA, 2nd on UB and 4th on BB in the National Open 16+ division.

In the Men's Senior High Performance (elite) category at the 2011 Canadian Championships, Jackson Payne won the AA title. PSU grad Casey Sandy was third. In the event finals, Payne won the FX and PH while Sandy won the HB. Scott Morgan won the Rings, while Hugh Smith won the VT. Brandon O'Neill won the PB.

The event finals in the senior and junior Women's High Performance categories concluded. For the Seniors, 2012 recruitable Jessica Savona won BB and FX. Another 2012 grad, Bianca Dancose-Giambattisto, won the UB. Bianca Jordaan won VT.

Recruitable Jessica Dowling won the National Open 16+ division at the Canadian Championships, posting a big win with a 56.875 under the modified National Open rules. She dominated, posting the top mark on everything but VT. Dowling will be attempting to make the Dutch National Team this year, using her dual citizenship. Iowa signee Emily Bigras was 8th AA and 4th on UB. SUU signee Rochelle Bernier was 11th AA.

Former PSU Head Coach Steve Shephard has landed a new role at Victory Collegiate Consulting, a recruiting service.
Madeline Gardiner won the women's AA title at the 2011 Canadian Championships, in the Senior High Performance (eliite) category. Recruitable Jessica Savona was 2nd after a two year recovery from injury, while another recruitable, Canadian World Team member Bianca Dancose-Giambattisto, was 3rd. Former World VT finalist Brittany Rogers, another uncommitted recruit, was fourth in her return from injury. Roughly 20 NCAA coaches were reportedly in attendance. Arizona signee Kristin Klarenbach did not compete.

At the 2011 Canadian Championships, Jessica Dowling placed 1st in the preliminaries in the 16 year old and up division. SUU signee Rochelle Bernier was sixth while Iowa signee Emily Bigras was 12th.
Recruits and recruitables were in action today at the Canadian Championships. The women's high performance (elite) seniors were in action, in qualification for the AA and Event finals. Dominique Pegg posted the top mark on Day 1 with a 53.9. Arizona signee Kristin Klarenbach was 2nd.

A trio of OU Sooners (Jake Dalton, Steve Legendre and Alex Naddour) led the USA to 2nd place a the Stella Zharkarova Cup. Naddour placed 3rd AA.

RIC has officially announced that Women's Gymnastics has been reinstated for at least two years. The program was cut in late March, but was reinstated through a tremendous effort of their team, in particular senior-to-be Sarah Chrane. A search for a Head Coach is underway.

Here is a snapshot of the overall season for the recruits and commits who are headed to the teams that finished in the top ten this season. Of course, some elite level and foreign athletes will continue to compete through the summer.
Dynamo's Charity Jones won the L10 JO National Title in the Junior D group with a 38.25. She also tied for 1st on VT, 3rd on UB, 10th on BB and 5th on FX. WOGA's Megan Marenghi placed 2nd with a 38.05, tying for 4th on BB, 5th on FX and 6th on UB.
Kiera Brown from World Class in Virginia placed 3rd AA, including ties for 3rd on UB and 5th on VT. In fourth was Rachel Haines from the Twistars Club. She posted a 37.925, including ties for 2nd on FX, 7th on VT and 8th on UB.
Rachel Daum of Stars in Texas won the FX and tied for the VT title with Jones. She finished 42nd AA after problems on UB. MAC's Diana Mejia won another National Title on UB and tied for 10th on BB, en route to a 20th place finish in the AA. Nicole Medvitz of ENA Paramus won the BB and placed 17th AA.
