Men's Commits 2015-2016

This list contains gymnasts who have publicly committed to schools for the 2015-2016 season.  As always, corrections are welcomed and encouraged.

Items in italics will be considered verbal commit "rumors", until a signing or intent to attend is publicly confirmed. However, many of these "rumors" may have actually been submitted by the gymnast, their family, or club. For consistency, the site will continue to be updated as information becomes public. Where available, links are provided to press releases, web sites, and newspaper articles.  Please note due to NCAA regulations, we are unable to confirm a commit directly with the source nor with the college.

Please see the FAQ section of this site for a further explanation of the policies for this site.

Former OU Sooner Jake Dalton placed 4th on FX, with Russia's Denis Abliazin winning the Gold.  On PH, former Sooner Alex Naddour was 6th.  Hungary's Krisztian Berki won the Gold.  On Rings, China's Liu Yang won the Gold.

P&G Championships: Men's Day 1

John Orozco took the lead after Day 1 at the P&G (US) Championahips.  Former OU star Jake Dalton is close behind in 2nd, with Danell Leyva in 3rd.  NCAA champ and ex Michigan standout (and current undergraduate assistant) Sam Mikulak had a few problems to stand in fourth.  Former Sooner Alex Naddour is fifth.  Former Ohio State standout Brandon Wynn posted the top ring score to place 7th, while current Buckeye Sean Melton was 8th.  Former Illini Paul Ruggeri was 9th while Illinois' CJ Maestas and Stanford's Akash Modi are tied for 10th.  Under the new rules that place a greater emphasis on specialists, the much deeper men's field has a number of gymnasts pursuing spots on the National and World Championship teams.

In the Junior Men's 17-18 division, Illinois frosh Bobby Baker is in first, ahead of OU frosh Hunter Justus in 2nd.  Kiwan Watts is third.   In the Junior Men's 15-16 division, Michigan frosh Marty Strech is in first.

Cornell to Welcome Eight for 2014-2015

Cornell will add eight gymnasts for 2014-2015.  Previously, we covered the commits of Joy Gage, Anna Huang, and Julianna Meely.  Cornell will welcome five more:

Allison Franz is a L10 who trains at Niagara in New York.  She placed 16th AA at the 2014 Region VI L10 Regionals.  She also qualified to Regionals in 2012.  Link:  Video

Jessica O'Brien is a L10 from Colorado's Extreme Altitude Gymnastics  She placed 9th AA at the 2014 Colorado Level 10 State Championships.  She also finished 18th AA at the 2012 Region III Regionals.  Link:  Video.

Courtney Spitzer is a L10 from SCEGA in Southern California.  She tied for 8th AA at the 2013 L10 SoCal State Meet.  She also qualified to Regionals in 2012.  Link:  Site

Samantha Sruba is a L10 from Technique in Northern California.  She qualified to the Region I Regionals in 2014, after winning the UB title at the 2014 NorCal L10 State meet.  She also placed 12th AA at Regionals in 2013.  Link:  Videos

Lauren Wong is a L10 from West Coast Elite in Southern California.  At the 2014 Region I L10 Regionals, she tied for 19th AA.  She also finished 16th AA in 2013.   Link:  Videos

Bridgeport won its sixth straight USA Gymnastics Collegiate National title, posting a 195.225 to the win.  TWU was second 194.725, just ahead of SPU at 194.55 and Air Force at 194.35.

As it comes down to every meet, Championships are won on BB.  Bridgeport was the only team to break 48 and that was enough to outdistance the field.  TWU posted three scores of 49+ but a rough rotation on BB kept them from challenging UB.

2014 Superlatives

Skills of Note in the 2014 Season (W)

The following is a listing of high level skills performed by Women in the 2014 Season.  To make this list, the skill had to be successfully competed in a meet sometime during the season.  The skill competed must have an FIG rating of "E" or "F" or "G", or an FIG Vault Difficult Value of 5.3 or higher.

The issue of escalating difficult leading to higher injury rates and more wear and tear on the athlete is important.  The purpose of this list is not to encourage or foster unreasonable risk or other threats to the safety of the athletes.  In fact, many of the skills on this list were only competed in special circumstances.  This list simply serves as an archive and collection of skills actually performed by the athletes.

Updated 5/4/2014

This list is incomplete and will be updated as information becomes available.  Please submit your additions and corrections to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
