Cal Cuts Men's and Women's Gymnastics

In a sad day for collegiate gymnastics, Cal has announced it has cut it's men's and women's gymnastics programs, in an announcement made this afternoon.  The cuts come despite over 100K raised on behalf of the men's program, and a pledge of support from USA Gymnastics.  Baseball, women's lacrosse and men's rugby were also cut.  118 male athletes, including 19 in gymnastics, will be affected.  45 women are impacted, 15 in gymnastics.   Men's rugby has been singled out for special treatment, retaining special status as a varsity club support.

2012-13 Farley to PSU

Shealyn Farley, L10 from Prestige Gymnastics in Pa., has committed to PSU according to a site submission.  She has an outstanding 2010 season, placing 1st AA at The Blackeyed Susan (1st UB/FX), The Chicago Style (1st place sweep), The Buckeye Classic (1st V/BB), and her state meet.  She placed 3rd AA at regionals and 2nd AA (1st BB) at JOs.

2012-13 Sheppard to Michigan

Austin Sheppard, L10 from Golden Grip in Texas, has committed to Michigan for the 2012-13 season.  She produced a string of top five AA finishes at her meets throughout the regular season in 2010, including a near sweep (1st AA; 1st V/UB/FX) at the Rose City Classic.  At her state meet, she finished 3rd AA, but picked up wins on vault (9.8) and beam.  She placed 5th AA (1st FX) at regionals and 7th AA at JOs (2nd FX; 3rd V).

2012-13 Beers to Bama

Lauren Beers, Sr. Elite from Southern Tier Gymnastics in New York, has committed to Alabama according to a post on her web site.  Her 2010 meet results include a 1st AA finish (1st BB/FX) at the Sand Dollar and 1st AA (1st BB) at the Sand Dollar Elite Qualifier; a AA (BB/FX at the Buckeye Classic (L10) and a 3rd place finish (1st V) at the Buckeye Elite session; a 12th AA finish at the Covergirl Classic; and a 15th AA at US Nationals.

2011-2012: Straub to Towson

A L10 at Galaxy in New York, Diona Straub, has committed to Towson for 2011-2012.  Straub placed 9th AA at the 2010 Region VI L10 Regionals.  She also placed 9th AA at the 2008 Level 9 Eastern Nationals.

2012-2013: Alotta to PSU

Parkette L10 Taylor Alotta has reportedly committed to Penn State, according to a site submission.  Alotta placed 3rd AA in her division at the JO National Invitational Turnament, after a 10th place AA finish at Regionals.  She also placed 10th at Regionals in 2009.

2012-2013: Demers to Auburn

Lexus Demers has committed to Auburn for 2012-2013, according to her club.  The L10 at Midwest Gymnastics (MN) won the FX title at the 2010 L10 Nationals, Junior D division. She also placed 14th in the AA.  In 2009, competing in the Junior C division, she tied for 21st AA and tied for 7th on BB.

2011-12 Guyer to SJSU

Cami Guyer, L10 from Gymnastics East in Washington has committed to San Jose State University. Cami’s 2010 season consisted of a 2nd place AA at Sand Dollar meet in Orlando, 4th place AA at the Boise State Open, 2nd place AA at Washington State meet, 2nd place AA at Regionals, and 22nd AA at JO Nationals.

2011-12 Witt to PSU

Alexandra Witt, L10 from LaFleurs Tampa Gymnastics in Florida has committed to PSU.  Witt turned in top 10 finishes in all of her meets throughout the 2010 season, including a 1st place sweep at her state meet, a 5th place finish at regionals and an 8th place finish at JO Nationals (4th UB, 7th FX).

2011-12 Lundeen to William and Mary

Maggie Lundeen, L10 from Palmer's Gymnastics in Illinois, has committed to William and Mary according to a post on the Region 5 Facebook page.  Lundeen had good results last season, including a 1st place finish (1st UB) at Circle of the Stars and a 3rd place AA (1st UB) at the Chicago Style meet.  She qualified to the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup, finishing 24th AA.  She placed 9th AA (1st FX) at her state meet, 7th AA at her regional meet, and 25th AA at JO Nationals.
