2018-19 Magee to Utah

Mikayla Magee, L10 at Reflex Gymnastics in Texas, has committed to Utah.  In 2014, Mikayla finished 6th AA at JOs.  So far this season she has competed at the Texas Prime (4thAA), Chow's Challenge (1st AA and 1st on v/ub/bb) and the Presidential Classic (1st AA and a sweep of all events).

OU tops the Men's Coaches' Poll for the week of February 23rd.   Illinois is 2nd and Stanford is third.

This week's ranking switch to the Regional Qualifying Score, as compiled by Troester.com GymInfo.  As usual, there is a big reshuffling of the Top 25, as teams drop low scores in their average.  However, at the top, things remain the same.  OU takes the top spot in this week's rankings, followed by LSU and then Florida.

MSU 194.85 at UIC 191.15

Alina Cartwright, Lisa Burt and Elena Lagoski won the UB, BB and FX, respectively, as MSU overpowered host UIC.  UIC's Kimberly Randall won the VT, while teammate Gabrielle May went 39.05 in the AA.

Lindenwood defeated Ball State, using Rachel Zabawa's final 9.875 FX tie to propel the squad past the Ball State quad.  Kierstin Sokolowski led the lions, winning VT and tying for the FX title with Zabawa en route to a 39.225 AA win.  Illinois State's Sami King won the UB and BB.

Minnesota Wins State of Minnesota Classic

Minnesota posted a 195.325 to defeat cross-state rivals Winona State (186.05), Hamline (184.4) and Gustavus Adolphus (180.2).  As usual, Lindsay Mable led the way with wins on VT and FX, and a tie on UB with teammate Madie Hanley.  Teamamte Rachel Haines won the BB.    Link:  Minn Release

Penn won the Ivy Classic, defeating Brown, Yale and Cornell.  Penn was led by Wynne Levy, who won the vault title.  Brown's Caroline Morant won the UB and FX, while teammate Jordan Mitchell took the AA (38.65).  Yale's Brittney Sooksengdao won the BB.

Temple 187.75 at Ursinus 192.625

Ursinus set a new team scoring record of 192.625 to easily defeat Temple.  Frosh AAer Kaelin Ruoss broke the school record in the AA with a 38.5.  Teammate Lauren Chavis won the UB and also tied the school record.  Teammates Kristina Steffenhagen, Kristin Aichele, and Monique Brooks won the VT, BB and FX, respectively.

#38 Maryland won the quad meet, edging host WVU and defeating Rutgers and #25 UNH.  

Maryland was led by Karen Tang, who won the UB.  WVU's Melissa Idell won the FX, and a trio of Mountaineers tied for the VT title:    Jaida Lawrence, Zaakira Muhammad, and Nicolette Swoboda.  Jenna Williams and Claire Jones of Rutgers tied for the BB title.   

#25 UNH was missing Casey Lauter, who was lost for the season with an ankle injury in practice this week.  Meghan Pflieger won her sixth straight AA title with a 38.925.

Ball State 193.875 at EMU 195.275

EMU celebrated Senior Day with a big win over Ball State.  Senior Anna Willette celebrated in fine fashion, taking the AA with a 39.05.  She also won the VT and BB.  Teammate Lacey Rubin won the UB.  For BGSU, Erin Patchey won the FX.

Bowling Green 192.7 at CMU 196.125

CMU posted a 196+ at home to easily defeat the visitors from Bowling Green.  Halle Moraw led the Chippewas, winning VT, BB and tying for the FX title with teammate Becca Druien.  Teammates Karlee Teet and Kylie Fagan tied for the UB title.

Men's Winter Cup Challenge

Former Illinois star Paul Ruggeri won the Men's Winter Cup Challenge on Saturday.  Former OU Sooner Steven Legendre was 2nd.  Michigan commit Marvin Kimble was 4th, while former Cal star Donothan Bailey was 5th.  Cal's Kevin Wolting led the current NCAAers with his 6th place finish.  OU's Allan Bower was 7th, while Stanford's Akash Modi moved up to 9th after a stong 2nd day.  Illinois' Bobby Baker also had a solid day to move up to 11th.  Former NCAA champ Sam Mikulak, who did not compete all six events the first day, scored the day's highest AA tally on Day 2.

Cal 196.6, SPU 192.05 at Washington 195.325

Cal mastered the BB and walked away with a win, as the Huskies struggled on their second event.  Toni Ann Williams led the Bears, winning the FX and taking the AA at 39.375.  Amber Takara won the UB while teammate Desiree Palomares tied with Washington's Jaclyn McCartin for the BB title.  Husky frosh Hailey Burleson won the VT.

Stanford 195.9 at Utah 198.05

15,202 fans watched their Utes break 198 and defeat Stanford.  Stanford suffered a counting fall on BB and problems on FX.  Tory Wilson led the way with a 39.55 AA win.  Teammate Georgia Dabritz added a 10 on UB to win the event.  A near perfect 9.975 gave Kailah Delaney the VT title, while frosh Kari Lee won the BB.  Ute senior Corrie Lothrop won the FX.

Iowa 195.86, BYU 195.425 at Devner 196.725

Nina McGee of Denver returned to the AA and posted a 39.45 win as the Pioneers sailed to a new season high.  McGee also won the UB and FX.  Teammate Julia Ross won the VT.  On BB, DU's Rachel Fielitz and Leah Lomonte tied with Iowa's Angel Metcalf for the title.

UCLA broke 197 to defeat Nebraska, Sac State and Bridgeport on Saturday.  Bruin Samantha Peszek returned to the AA and posted a 39.625 win.  Teammate Peng-Peng Lee won the UB and the BB, the latter with a 9.975.  UCLA's Jordan Williams took the vault.  On FX, Bruin Danusia Francis danced to a tie with NU's Ashley Lambert.
