The young Washington squad used a steady and consistent effort to take advantage of Oregon State's problems on the floor to pull out the rare come from behind win in Corvallis.  Washington's Allie Northey led the way, winning the AA with a 39.45 and tying for the event titles on VT and FX.  She tied for the VT title with Oregon State's Madeline Gardiner while she tied for the floor title with frosh teammate Zoey Schaefer and Oregon State's Chelsea Tang.  Tang also won the BB.  Beaver Erika Aufiero won the UB.

Alaska Anchorage 191.825 at SPU 189.55

Alaska Anchorage defeated rival SPU in Seattle, led by M'rcy Matsunami's career high 38.9 AA win.  She also won the UB and tied with teammate Morgan Cook for the vault title.  Teammate Emily Ramberg won the BB while Seawolve Simone Penker won the FX.

Boise State's Ciera Perkins posted a 10 on VT to lead the Broncos to the win.  Teammate Krystine Jacobsen added wins on UB and BB to help Boise State to the win.  UC Davis' Stephanie Stamates broke through with a win on FX.  For USU, Sarah Landes won the AA with a 39.225.

Maryland 195.275 at Iowa 195.725

Iowa held off the visiting Terrapins to win a big meet at home.  Sydney Hoerr won the FX to lead the Hawkeyes to the win.  Teammate Alie Glover won the BB.  Three Maryland athletes tied for the vault title:  Katy Dodds, Shannon Skochko and Abbie Epperson.  Frosh Epperson also won the UB.

BYU 195.675 at SUU 195.65

BYU slipped by SUU on the last event, to edge the hosts by 0.025.  BYU was led by wins from Makenzie Johnson on BB and Eliane Kulczyk on VT.  BYU frosh Jill Van Mierlo tied for the FX title with SUU's Ana Jaworski and Tyly Bozzuto.  Bozzuto won the AA with a 39.175.  Teammate Kirsten Yee won the UB with a school record 9.95.

Air Force 190.9 at Auburn 196.625

Auburn defeated visiting Air Force handily on Friday night.  Junior Caitlin Atkinson won her third straight AA title with a 39.4.  Atkinson also added a win on FX.  Teammates Megan Walker won UB and BB while Lexus Demurs completed a sweep with a win on VT.

Amy Enright of UW-La Crosse won the AA with a 37.8 and tied for the bars title with teammate Carly Kiesow as UW-Lacrosse won its 15th Gershon/McLellan Invitational in history.

Missouri's Laura Kappler posted a 39.175 to lead the Tigers to the tri-meet win.  Kappler also tied for the beam title with teammate Becca Schugel.  Schugel also won the FX.  Teammate Becca Johnson won the UB with a 9.9.  For SEMO, Alyssa Tucker won the beam.

Georgia 196.95 at Florida 197.6

UGA challenged the host Gators, but the Kytra Hunter-led Florida squad picked up the win.  Hunter went for 39.675 to win the AA; she also won the vault with a near-perfect 9.975 and tied for the FX title 9.975 with teammate Kennedy Baker.  UGA's Ashlyn Broussard won the BB while Gym Dog Kiera Brown tied with Florida's Alex McMurtry for the bars title.

Alabama 196.7 at Kentucky 195.625

Alabama defeated host Kentucky, paced by Lauren Beers and Carley Sims.  The pair tied for VT, and then Beers won UB and Sims won FX.  Teammate Kaitlin Clark won the BB.

Pitt 191.175 at Kent State 195.75

Kent State powered to a season high score and the win, led by frosh Rachel Stypinski's wins on BB and FX.  Teammate Brooke Timko won the vault while teammates Ali Marrero and Rebecca Osmer tied for the UB title.

OU 197.65 at Denver 195.9

 

Oklahoma scored a big win at DU, posting a 197.65 road score at the Mile High city.  Sooner Haley Scaman led the way once again, winning VT and tying for the UB title with teammate McKenzie Wofford.  Teammate Kara Lovan won the BB while Brenna Dowell picked up the title on FX to complete a sweep.

Another weekend has passed, and we've see more questions open up about the season as the rankings have shuffled once again.  Team that started strong have since wobbled a bit, while others with some early stumbles have steadily climbed.  And we've seen some others that have been steady and consistent in the meets thus far, and have solid Top 25 positions to show for it.  As 197 becomes the new 196, let's see how the week has gone....

Men's National Rankings: Week of January 26th

The College Gymnastics Association (CGA) posted their week three rankings for the men, for the week of January 26th.  The rankings, unlike for the women, are based on a survey of coaches.  Oklahoma leads the poll, followed by Stanford and PSU.   OU was not an unanimous choice this week; one first place vote went to PSU.

Oregon State 196.45 at Stanford 197

Stanford's Elizabeth Price vaulted to her first 10 and swung the nation's toughest routine to a tie on UB (with Oregon State's Chelsea Tang) to lead the Cardinal to the win.  Teammate Taylor Rice won the FX and took the AA with a 39.475.  Stanford's leadoff, Rebecca Wing, took the BB with a full twisting backhandspring and a fully connected front aerial to back handspring to back layout series.

2016-17 Oglesby to EMU
