Arizona 194.375 at Alabama 196.225

The Dana Duckworth tenure opened at Bama with a bang, with the Tide posting a 196.225 to defeat Arizona's 194.375.   Sophomore Katie Bailey led Bama, winning the AA with a 39.375.  Senior Kaitlyn Clark won the vault (9.95), while classmate Lora Leigh Frost won the FX.  The Tide's Lauren Beers and Aja Sims tied for the UB title at 9.875.  For Arizona, Jessie Sisler won the beam with a stellar 9.95.

UW Whitewater 183.275 at UW Stout 177.85

Defending Div III champ UW Whitewater opened their season in fine fashion, posting a 183.275 to defeat UW Stout.   They were led once again by Katie Fiorilli, who opened her season with a 37.75 AA tally and wins on the BB and FX.  Teamamte Cici Talcott won the VT.  For UW Stout, frosh Kenzie Hyde won the UB.

Denver 194.5 at NC State 192.025

Written by

Denver posted the road win, hitting 194.5 to defeat host NC State.  They were led by Nina McGee, who posted a 39.175 to win the AA.  She also won the bars, floor and tied for the beam title with NC State's Lane Jarred.  The Pioneer's Rachel Fielitz and Emily Barrett tied for the vault title with NC State's Brittni Watkins.

Auburn 194.15 at UNC 193.75

Auburn rallied to defeat host UNC 194.15 to 193.75 during the season opener for both squads.  The Tigers were led by Caitlin Atkinson and Lexus Demers.  Atkinson won the vault and tied for the beam title with Demers.  Demers shared the FX title with UNC's Morgan Lane.  For UNC, frosh Kaitlynn Hedelund won the bars while teammate Haley Watts won the AA (39.1).

Utah 196.9 at BYU 193.35

Utah crushed in-state rival BYU at home.  Tory Wilson led Utah, winning the AA (39.45) and FX, plus a tie for first on vault with teammate Georgia Dabritz.  Dabritz won bars while sophomore teammate Baely Rowe won BB.

A young GWU knocked off WVU and host Maryland in a big win on Friday night.  Frosh Jillian Winstanley led the way, winning the AA with a 39.0.  Fellow GWU frosh Cami Drouin-Allaire won the vault.  Host Maryland was led by wins from Stephanie Giameo on beam and Kathy Tang and Ebony Walters on FX (tied with GWU's Chelsea Raineri).  For WVU, Alexa Goldberg won the UB.

Host Missouri used a 193.9 to defeat visiting Towson 193.325 and Kent State 192.4.  Missouri frosh Shauna Miller had a huge debut to lead the Tigers, winning the AA with a 39.325, including a 9.95 win on vault.  She also won the UB and BB.  Kent State's Jordan Hardison won the FX.

Temple 187.2 at EMU 193.925

EMU's Chantelle Loehner posted a meet-high 9.85 to win the FX and help the Eagles easily hold off the Owls.  Teammate Lacey Rubin won the bars while teammates Kendall Valentin and Anna Willette tied for the vault title.  For Temple, Alexis Arena won the BB.

SCSU 188.625 at Springfield 183.525

Southern Connecticutt junior Nicole Pruchnik won the beam and floor to lead the Owls to a win over host Springfield.  Frosh teammate Alexandra Avendano won the vault.  Springfield senior Lauren Pocius won the UB.

Ohio State 194.675 at Pitt 190.825

Frosh Alexis Mattern won VT (9.85) and the FX (9.875) to lead her squad to an opening win over Pitt.  Teammate Tenille Funches won the AA with a 38.15.  For Pitt, Lindsay Offutt won the BB while teammates Miya Dotson and Taylor Laymon tied for the UB title.

M'rcy Matsunami won the vault, bars and BB en route to a big 38.85 AA win to lead the Seawolves to an impressive opening win over Winona State.  Teammate Kallie Randolph won the floor.

Cal Wins NorCal Classic

Cal won the NorCal Classic, hosted by UC Davis, on Sunday, January 4th.  Cal tallied a 195.175 to hold off UC Davis (194.35), and San Jose State (194.05).  San Jose State tied a shorthanded Stanford with 193.45 and fourth.

Cal frosh Toni Ann Williams had a super debut, winning the FX and tying for the bars title with teammate Amber Takara.  UC Davis' Stephanie Stamates won the BB. 

Stanford's Taylor Rice won the AA with a 39.35, while superfrosh Elizabeth Price, who is coming back from an injury, competed vault, her only event, for a 9.95.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire 183.8 at CMU 192.55

CMU defeated visiting Wisconcin Eau-Claire 192.55 to 183.8 as the season got underway on Saturday afternoon.  CMU was led by Halle Moraw, who won the vault, balance beam and tied for the floor title with teammate Becca Druien.   Chippewa Kylie Fagan won the UB.
