We are heading into our Conference Championship weekend and the final race for the post-season.  Tight races are in place for the Top 16 seeds and Top 36 qualifiers to Regionals.  OU retains the lead over LSU for #1, 197.963 to 197.917.  Florida is secure in 3rd, and can't be passed.  Alabama and UCLA are in a tight battle for 4th, with Bama at 197.5 to UCLA's 197.478.  UGA in 6th is still within reach of UCLA, but not the top 4.  Here are this week's rankings, as compiled by RoadtoNationals.

By event, OU remains the leader on VT, but Florida has taken over the top spot on BB and retains the lead on UB.  LSU is still #1 n FX.

As a reminder the rankings are based on the new National Qualifying System formula whereby the five lowest home scores are selected and combined with the away scores, the high and low discarded, the remaining averaged.  In comparison to prior years, heading into the final meet the orders in the rankings can be shifted by both high scores and low scores.  This creates a wider range of outcomes, even though the impact of one score is muted by the number of scores in the aveage.

The Regional hosts are ASU, LSU, Kentucky, and Oregon State.  The Regional hosts serve to "anchor" the Top 16 seeded "quartets" into a Regional.  The "quartets" would be grouped by 1-8-9-16, 2-7-10-15, 3-6-11-14 and 4-5-12-13.  Right now, that means just LSU anchors the 2-7-10-15 grouping.  However, #19 Kentucky is still within striking distance of the Top 16, as just 0.044 separates them from #16.  Teams from #14 Cal to #22 UNC could end up in any order.  Kentucky theoretically could end up in 14th, 15th, or 16th.  When two hosts end up in the same quartet, the higher ranked team prevails (LSU in this case, if UK was to end up #15).  The lower ranked host would be exchanged with another team, preferably between up to two seeded positions. The remaining seeds will generally get placed by geographical proximity, then by rank.

The Race for the last spots in Regionals is also very tight, with eleven teams still in play for a spot at Regionals (#30, #33 to #42).  However, some of the teams at the outermost range of the rankings have more remote changes.  For example, #30 Arizona could fall out of the Top 36, but it would take a very low score (193.55) and near season-highs from #35 to #37 for that to happen.  The tightest battle is between #35 Washington (195.415), #36 Pitt (195.372), and #37 Rutgers (195.364), with Washington being best positioned, as an 196.1 would secure #36, even with season highs from the rest.

The individual rankings and qualifications to the post-season will use the old formula, whereby the three highest away scores are taken, then the next three highest scores, the high score tossed, and the remaining five averaged.  LSU's Kailin Chio retains her first place position in the AA, VT and BB.  Chloe LaCouriere of Bama retains the top spot on UB while Jordan Chiles of UCLA is still #1 on FX.

Here's the Top 36; for teams near the Top 16 and 36 bubbles, we have added NQS ranges for each (min/max):
