Oregon State Regional: UCLA, Minnesota Advance

In a close and thrilling final, UCLA posted a 197.725 to edge Minnesota's 197.625 and advance to the NCAA national meet.  The Gophers scored the major upset of the Regional meets, using a terrific, pressure-packed 49.525 on BB to surpass Utah's 197.5 and Bama's 197.175.   Critically, Minnesota was the only team to go 24 for 24 in the final.  Prior to this Regionals, Utah had advanced to Nationals for 49 straight years. Jordan Chiles led UCLA, posting a 10 to win FX and a 39.75 to win the AA.  She also tied for the top mark on VT with Minnesota's Arianna Ostrum and Utah's Makenna Smith.  Gopher Jordyn Lyden won BB and tied for the top mark on UB with Utah's Avery Neff.

With UCLA and Minnesota advancing, Utah's Avery Neff will advance as the top AAer from the second round.  Denver's Shyla Bhatia had the top mark on a non-advancing team on VT, winning the tiebreaker (four judge scores).  Ute Ana Padarariu won the tie-breaker on BB (four judges score) to grab the spot there.   In the prelims, nine gymnasts on non-advancing teams tied at 9.9 on FX.  Winning the tiebreaker (four judge scores) was Ella Zirbes of Utah.  Aurelie Tran of Iowa, who posted a 10 in the second round, was previously tapped as the qualifier on UB. All of the Individual Qualifiers become office with the NCAA announcement.  Shockingly, no Alabama athlete advanced.
