Women's National Rankings for the Week of January 17th

This week's rankings, by total season average, has several new names as new teams got into action and we saw some big swings in scores earned.  There were a number of teams that had problems on various events this week, while others that had troubles last week managed to improve their hit ratios.  All rankings are from Troester GymInfo.  Because the rankings were compiled on late Sunday night, it appears Ohio State did not enter their scores in time.  Otherwise, they would drop to 25th in the rankings.  Florida holds onto the top spot, with Stanford, who did not compete, in 2nd.  Bama takes over the top spot on VT, while Florida is #1 on UB.  Florida also holds the top spot on FX, while Stanford remains on top on BB.

Michigan's Kylee Botterman jumps to the top of the AA rankings.  Utah's Kyndal Robarts is the top vaulter, while Oregon State's Olivia Vivian is the top UB worker.  Stanford's Ashley Morgan is the top FX worker.  Three gymnasts are tied for the top spot on BB:  Olivia Courtney of UCLA, Leslie Mak of Oregon State, and Taylor Spears of OU.

EMU 187.8 at NIU 186.825

EMU's Nikole Viltz won the VT to lead EMU's balanced effort.  NIU's Holly Reichard won FX and BB to lead NIU.  Teammates Shonda Clore and Ashley Guerra tied for the UB title.

UNC Wins Lindsey Ferris Invitational

North Carolina won the Lindsey Ferris Invitational held at GWU on Sunday, posting a 193.9 to defeat a large field.

Towson 191.05, Bridgeport 190.1 at Brown 188.05

Towson won the Sunday tri-meet with Bridgeport and host Brown.  Kacy Cantanzaro and Avis Hixon won UB and VT, respectively, for the Tigers.  Lorraine Galow won the AA for Bridgeport, while teammates Emily Repko and Monica Mesalles added wins on BB and FX.  Brown had its highest first meet total ever.

MSU 191.175 at Pittsburgh 192.15

Pittsburgh came from behind to overtake Michigan State in a meet Sunday afternoon.  Frosh Brittney Harris led Pitt to victory, winning the VT and the AA.  Teammate Molly Moyer won FX while teammate Katie O'Rourke tied with MSU's Serena Bumbarger for the BB title.  MSU's Daneen Haba won the UB.

Washington posted a 194.825 to win a quad meet over Boise State, Illinois State and SPU.  UW's Ruby Engreitz won the UB, the only Husky to win an individual event.  Boise State's Amy Glass won the AA with a 39.325, picking up wins on the VT and BB in the process.  Teammate Hannah Redmon won the FX.

Men's: Illinois Wins Big at Windy City

Illinois won big at the Windy City Invitational, posting a 355.4 for the win.  Michigan was 2nd with 346.1, with Minnesota third at 340.7.  Just behind was Ohio State with a 339.8, while Iowa posted a 332.8.  UIC tallied a 327.3.

Chad Wiest won two events for Illinois, taking both leg events (FX and VT).  Teammates CJ Padera and Paul Ruggeri won PB and HB, respectively.  Ty Echard of Ohio State won the PH, while teammate Brandon Wynn won Rings. 

In the AA, it was Ruggeri with a 88.9, just ahead of teammate Tyler Mizoguchi at 88.2.

Men's: OU Wins Rocky Mountain Open

The Sooners won the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday night.  Sooner Jake Dalton posted a 88.5 to win the AA.  He also claimed FX and PB, while teammate Steven Legendre won VT (16.4).  OU won with a 346.5, with NU 2nd at 334.5.  Air Force was third with a 327.3 and ASU's club team tallied a 311.6.

Kaley LaFleur won the AA for West Chester but Southern Connecticutt pulled ot the win, led by Justine Basley's meet high 9.55 on UB.

TWU 189.4 at DU 195

Denver defeated TWU 195 to 189.4.  Louise Mercer led DU, winning the AA with a 39.175 and capturing the FX.  She also tied for 1st on UB with teammate Brianna Springer.   Springer captured the VT while frosh Jorie Hall won the BB.

Iowa 194.825 at Minnesota 195.325

Minnesota won their home opener with a big 195.325 score.   For the Gophers, frosh Dusti Russell won the FX while Kendra Elm won the VT.  Another Gopher, Kristin Furukawa, tied for the UB title with Iowa's Houry Gebeshian.  Iowa's Rebecca Simbhudas won the AA (39.25) and the BB to lead the Hawkeyes.

Abigail Adams led Maryland to the big victory Saturday afternoon.  The Terrapin senior won the UB, BB and FX en route to a 39.15 AA victory.

Utah 195.9 at UGA 195.8

Written by

Utah used a strong BB rotation to overtake UGA and defeat the Gymdogs at home.  This snapped Geogia's 34 meet unbeaten streak at home.  Senior Kyndal Robarts led Utah on VT with a 9.95 win.  Frosh Mary Beth Lofgren tied for her 1st BB title with UGA's Shayla Worley and Cassidy McComb.  McComb won the FX and the AA (39.35) to lead Georgia.  Teammate Gina Nuccio added the UB title.
