2018-19 Bivrell to Oregon State

Leah Bivrell, L10 at Colorado Gymnastics Institute, has committed to OSU.   A second year Level 10, she recently won the beam title at the Manhattan Classic and the bars title at the Spring Fling.

We're in our final weekend of competition, and the Troester.com GymInfo National Rankings are showing a tight battle for the Top 18 and Top 36.  The Top 36 teams qualify to the Regionals and there are a number of teams that are battling to NOT be #37.  The race for the Top 18 is also intense, and it has implications for the Regional lineups.  OU continues to lead the National Rankings, after a weekend that saw numerous season highs, school records, and career bests.

USU 196.325 at Sac State 196.0

USU posted the fourth highest score in school history to defeat Sac State's 196.  USU was led by JoAnna Cuba, who tied with teammate Keri Peel for the UB title and Sac State's Kayle Wonderly for the BB title.  Teammate Bailey McIntire won the FX while Aggie Sarah Landes won the AA with a 39.25.  Sac State's Jula Konner won the VT with a 9.875.

EMU 195.525 at NIU 195.8

NIU broke the school team scoring record with a 195.8 to celebrate Senior Day and take the win over EMU.  Amanda Stepp led NIU, winning the VT and the FX.  EMU's Kendall Valentin won the UB while teammate Natalie Gervais won the BB.  EMU's Anna Willette won the AA with a 39.0.

UW Whitewater Wins WIAC Championships

UW Whitewater won the NIAC CHampionships, which also serve as the NCGA West Regional.  They posted a 191.75 to defeat UW La Crosse (190.875) and UW Stout (187.825).  Those three teams advance to the NCGA Championships in two weeks.


Winona State was close behind at 187.675, followed by Hamline with a season high 187.1  UW Eau Claire (184.475) was next, followed by UW Oshkosh (181.625) and Gustavus Adolphus (180.025). 

UW Whitewaters Courtney Pickett won the AA with a 38.3.  Teammate Katie Fiorilli won the VT, while teammate Kate Mierow won the BB.  La Crosse's Amy Enright won the UB with a 9.85, while Stout's Kaylee Jondahl won the FX with a 9.825.

Minnesota posted a big quad meet win, defeating PSU, Iowa and NU.

PSU's Torres won the AA with an 89.5.

Yale 192.775 at Brown 193.15

Host Brown triumphed over Ivy League rival Yale Sunday afternoon.  The Bears were led by jr Diana Walters, who won the AA with a 38.875.   Teammates Brooke Williams and Caroline Morant tied for the FX title.  For Yale, Anna Merkuyryev, Morgan Traina and Joyce Li won VT, UB and BB, respectively.

CMU 196.225 at WMU 195.725

CMU posted a 196.225 to defeat WMU's season high 195.725.  CMU was led by Halle Moraw, who won the FX and tied for the VT title with teammate Karlee Teet and WMU's Jessi Buis.  Teammates Kylie Fagan and Taylor Noonan won UB and BB, respectively.

UNH 196.15 at Centenary 193.775

The two squads, who met on Friday night, recovened on Sunday.  UNH broke the 196 mark to overcome Centenary's season high mark.  Meghan Plieger led UNH, winning the AA with a 39.325, winning the vault and tying for the FX title.  She tied on FX with teammates Catarina Broccoli and Erika Rudiger.  Teammate Adrienne Hill won the BB.  Ashley White of Centenary tied with UNH's MaKenzie Kerouac for the UB title.

SEMO 191.8 at UIC 193.625

UIC powered past the visitors from SEMO, led by Gabrielle May.  May took the AA with a 39.225, including a win on UB, FX and a tie on VT.  She tied on VT with teammate Nikki Woodruff and SEMO's Ashley Thomas.  Thomas also won the BB.

Oregon State posted a big 197.075 in their final home meet for an easy win.  The tally included a big 49.675 on FX, featuring a tie at 9.95 between Risa Perez and Chelsea Tang.    The Beavers were led by Madeline Gardiner, who won the BB and the AA with a 39.45.  Erika Aufiero added ties for the VT and UB titles.  Teammate Taylor Keeker tied her on VT.  On UB, teammate Kaytianna McMillan tied for first with Aufiero and Lindenwood's Courtney Heise and San Jose State's Maddie Herr.

DU at Arizona, Tie at 196.85

DU and Arizona solidified their standings in the Top 18 with big 196.85 scores.   Nina McGee led DU with a win in the AA at 39.55.  She also took the FX, while teammate Julia Ross won the VT.  For Arizona, Madison Cindric won the UB while Shay Fox won the BB.

Ursinus Wins NCGA East Championships

Ursinus scored a school record 193.55 to win the East Regional and qualify to the NCGA Championships in two weeks.  They also set new team records on the VT, UB, and BB.

3  Cortland State 191.450 
4  Springfield College 189.075 
5  Ithaca College 188.075 
6  Rhode Island College 180.100 

Ursinus was led by Kaelin Ruoss' win in the AA, a 38.675 school record.  Teamamte Kristina Steffenhagen won the FX with a new recoard, and was named NCGA East Gymnast of the year.  Ruoss was frosh of the year.  Teammate Jillian Casarella won the BB. 

Cortland State's Amanda Scanlon won the VT.  Brockport State's Stephanie Schuler won the UB.

Bridgeport 194.675 at W&M 195.0

Host W&M set a school record on vault en route to the 4th best score in school history.  Brittany Stover broke the school record on VT for the win, and won the AA with another school record score (39.5).  She also won the UB. 

Bridgeport's Brianna Comport won the BB while teammate Sasha Tsikhanovich posted another win on FX.

Army 413.8 at W&M 411.8

Army defeated host William and Mary.  Army was missing star Jesse Glenn, but other stepped up in his absence.  Sam Kusnitz won the FX and VT, while Connor Venrick won the Rings and Chris Short won the PB.  For W&M, Aria Sabbagh won the AA while Michael Deitz won the HB and Keaton Ackerman won the PH.

Men's: Ohio State 425.7 at OU 449.7

Host OU jut missed the 450 mark but still finished the season unbeaten.  Allan Bower led the Sooners with wins on VT and PB.  Alec Robin added a win on FX, while Michael Reid won another PH title.  Michael Squires had a meet-high 16.05 to win rings, whily Jacoby Rubin won HB.
