Florida 196.05 at Kentucky 195.35

Florida defeated UK, 196.05 to 195.35 in action Friday.  Seven different Gators or won an event title, including Courtney Gladys' two ties on VT and BB and Ashanee Dickserson's victory in the AA.  Also capturing shares of titles were Nicole Ellis (VT), Elizabeth Mahlich (UB), Maranda Smith (UB), Alicia Goodwin (UB), and Liz Green (BB).   For UK, Emily Green won FX and Storey Morris tied for 1st on BB .

Michigan State 193.75 at Michigan 194.2

In a rare Wednesday night matchup, Michigan was led by Sarah Curtis, who won the AA with a 39.275.  She also captured event titles on the UB and BB.  Frosh teammate Natalie Beilstein won the VT and FX.  The meet will be broadcast on Saturday, January 23rd on the Big 10 network.

Illinois Leads First GymInfo Men's Rankings

Illinois claims the top spot in this week's GymInfo National Rankings for Men's NCAA Gymnastics.   Illinois' Paul Ruggeri is the top AAer.

The club season is now in full swing.  Here are a few noteworthy results from the early January meets.

Brianna Guy (Auburn commit)  put up strong results in two December meets and went on to win the recent Brestyan's Invitational with a score of 38.175  (2nd V; 1st UB/BB/FX).  Krystal Welsh (PSU commit) picked up two early wins in December and finished 2nd in the Brestyan’s meet (3rd V, 2nd UB, 6th BB, 2nd FX).  Stephanie Ouellette (NCSU) and Hope Sloanhoffer (WVU) finished 1st and 2nd respectively in their session of that meet.  Ouellette picked up first place finishes on bars and floor and Sloanhoffer won vault and beam.

Kytra Hunter (UF) swept her session of the Maryland Classic and earned a near perfect 9.975 on vault. Her AA score of 39.2 was nearly two points ahead of the second place finisher, Katie O'Rourke (Pitt).  Future Utes Lia Del Priore and Rebecca Tutka finished 1st and 2nd respectively at the Maryland Classic in their session of 22 competitors.  (Del Priore 2nd V, 5th UB, 3rd BB, 1st FX and Tutka 5th V, 7th UB, 1st BB, 2nd FX).  PSU commit Alexis Carroll made a near sweep of her session of the Maryland Classic, finishing 1st AA (3rd V, 1st UB/BB/FX).

Cathrine Hires (UGA) placed 1st among 12 competitors in her session of the Tampa Bay Classic (1st V, 1st UB, 2nd BB, 2nd FX), finishing ahead of Sarena Bumbarger (MSU), who finished 1st on fx.  Hire's future teammate, Kaylan Earls, finished 1st (1st V,/BB,/FX and 2nd UB) at the Twistars Rock the House Meet

Amber See (Illinois) placed 1st AA and the Tampa Bay Turners Invite (1st V, 2nd UB, 3rd BB, 1st FX)

Arkansas commit Stephani Canizaro won her session of the Flip Fest (1st on V/UB/FX and 3rd on BB).  Her future teammate, Bailee Zumwalde, placed 2nd AA and 1st on FX at the Gopher Invite

Maliah Mathis (LSU) finished her session of the Ricky Deci Invite in 1st place (1st V, 4th UB, 2nd BB, 2nd FX).

Aliza Vaccher (UW) won her session of the Lady Luck Invite (2nd V, 5th UB, 2nd BB, 2nd FX)

Towson 191.025 at Alaska 185.35

In action Sunday, Towson won the 2nd of two dual meets with Alaska.  Towson's Megan Wooden won the AA with a 38.3 while teammate Kacy Cantazaro won the VT and BB.

UCLA continues to hold the top spot in the rankings, holding off OU at #2.  LSU's Susan Jackson takes over the top AA spot.  A trio of gymnastics hold the top spot on VT, Erin Davis of NU plus UCLA's Tauny Frattone and Vanessa Zamarripa.  UCLA's Anna Li holds the top UB, while UGA's Grace Taylor is perched at the top of the BB standings.  UGA's Courtney McCool, UCLA's Elyse Hopfner Hibbs and Utah's Annie DiLuzio hold down the top spot on FX.

Arizona 194.675 at Stanford 196.025

Stanford won their home opener, led by Carly Janiga, who won the AA with a 39.325.  Janiga also picked up the win on FX.  Teammate Shelley Alexander won the VT. Arizona picked up a pair of wins, with Sarah Tomczyk winning the UB and Britney Jones winning the BB.

ASU 192.825 at Cal 191.8

ASU defeated Cal at home, posting a 192.825 a short time after thair last meet.  Mary Atkinson led ASU, winning the VT, UB and FX.  Teammate Kaitlynn Bohrman won the BB.  For Cal, Sophia Honcini won the AA with a 38.825.

UNC Wins the GWU/Lindsey Ferris Invitational

UNH won the GWU/Lindsey Ferris Invitational, posting a 192.45 to outpace the field.  Christine Nguyen led UNC, winning the AA with a 38.9, with teammates Kara Wright and Krista Jasper in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  Nguyen won the BB and FX, while Wright captured the VT and UB.

TWU 193.2 at Centenary 187.475

TWU posted a 193.2 to win versus Centenary, who managed a 187.475.  Rashonda Cannie led TWU, winning the AA with a 38.925.  Teammate frosh Kristin Edwards won the VT and the FX, while Chaynade Knowles and Caroline Hilpisch won UB and BB, respectively.

Men's: OU Wins Rocky Mountain Open

OU won the meet, tallying a 347.4.  NU was second a 337.05, with a mixed squad from the US Olympic Training Squad third with a 328.7.  Air Force was 4th with a 325.85, with the ASU club team at 319.4 and Washington's club team at 277.95.

OU's Jake Dalton posted a 87.5 to win the AA.

Men's: Illinois Wins Windy City Invitational

Illinois won the team title, led by Paul Ruggeri's 88.6 AA victory.  Ruggeri also picked up the title on the HB.  His teammates also picked event titles:  Chad West on FX, Daniel Ribeiro on PH, Yoshi Mori on VT, and Craig Padera Jr. on PB.  Only Ohio State's Brandon Wynn on Rings was able to prevent the sweep.
